In the salon of "the richest man in Vienna," preparations are in progress for a new opera seria based on the Ariadne legend, with which the master of the house will divert his guests after a sumptuous dinner. 

In this version of the opera, the richest man in Vienna hosts his extravagant party at the Natural History Museum. Renting out the whole museum for his entertainment, he has the opera performance take place in one of the museums dioramas.
